The Village of Lawton would like to inform our residents and businesses on our response for winter snow operations. Our Public Works team is working hard to keep roads, sidewalks, and public areas safe and accessible.
The Village operates with a four-person Public Works crew. During significant snow events, their first priority is to ensure that major roads, emergency routes, and school-access areas are cleared.
We would appreciate your patience when our Public Works operates during a snow event.
What We’re Doing
1. Plowing Main Roads First
Primary routes—including Main Street, Nursery Street, 2nd, 3rd, Orchard, White oak and access for emergency services—are cleared first to ensure safe travel for first responders and residents.
2. Clearing Local roads
Once main roads are safe, crews move into residential streets and secondary roads.
3. Downtown Snow Removal
The downtown district is plowed early, but hauling snow out requires additional equipment and time. This is typically done over the days following the storm, after all streets have been cleared.
4. Sidewalks Maintained by the Village
Designated municipal sidewalks and school walking routes will be cleared as soon as plowing operations allow. Not all sidewalks will be plowed
What Residents Can Expect
– Not all streets, sidewalks, or parking areas may be cleared on the first day of a major storm but we will do our best to get this done.
– Snow removal and hauling may take multiple days, depending on the snowfall amount.
– Snow may temporarily accumulate near drive approaches or parking areas during initial plowing.
– Crews will continue cleanup operations until all areas are addressed.
How You Can Help
– Avoid parking on streets during or immediately after snowfall to help plows navigate safely.
– Keep trash bins, vehicles, and other obstacles out of the roadway.
– Do not place leaves or yard debris in the street—once they freeze, they cannot be removed until temperatures rise.
– Be patient with crews as they return to clean up areas after the initial pass.
REMINDER – it is illegal to push snow into or across a street and this will be enforced
